New York State Troopers Robert P. Stawicki and Alec R. Nelson
Trooper Stawicki and Trooper Alec R. Nelson responded to house fire in Granby, Oswego County, at 4 a.m. on Dec. 15, 2021. Upon arriving at the scene, Trooper Stawicki ran toward the house and saw a 13-year-old boy collapsed and unconscious on the floor about eight feet into the home. Without hesitation and with fire rolling over his head, Trooper Stawicki grabbed the boy, pulled him to safety, and administered first aid and resuscitation. The child was alive when he arrived at the hospital but later died from his injuries.
