Training Academy Directory

The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) provides oversight and direction for law enforcement training across New York State. While regional academies are primarily responsible for delivering recruit and in-service training, DCJS establishes the mandatory standards that govern those training programs.

DCJS develops and maintains entry-level police and peace officer minimum training requirements and approves curriculum content to ensure consistency and compliance with established standards. It also certifies instructors, audits academy programs, and monitors training delivery to promote quality and accountability. Through these functions, DCJS ensures that all officers—regardless of where they are trained—meet uniform professional standards.

Importantly, DCJS does not directly operate academies; rather, it partners with local jurisdictions, providing guidance, resources, and regulatory oversight. This shared responsibility model allows agencies to deliver training tailored to local needs while remaining aligned with statewide expectations for public safety.
