This program began operation in 1985. This project provides all criminal court clients, initially unable to post bail, the opportunity to be interviewed to determine eligibility for release from jail. The interview process objectively assesses the defendant's qualifications for release through release on his/her own recognizance (ROR), or, where the court determines the risk of absconding to be greater, through release under supervision (RUS). Program operations include screening, eligibility determinations, monitoring functions, where appropriate, and court notification of those who fail to satisfy release requirements.

This program began operation in 1985. Agency services are primarily assessment, court advocacy, court-ordered restrictions, counseling, educational services, enhanced information service, rehabilitation, residential services and extensive after care and evaluation services. This agency also refers clients for housing and job-placement assistance. Target populations are jail bound multiple DWI offenders. This facility also provides a way for female DWI offenders who require substance abuse treatment intervention to receive services, as needed.

This project provides the criminal courts with individualized treatment and supervision plans for selected, non-violent defendants, to alleviate long-term pretrial detention for selected defendants, and provide a basis for alternatives to incarceration sentencing recommendations by defense counsel. The project provides information referral services and pretrial release plans. In addition, the project prepares alternative sentencing proposals that outline non-incarcerative dispositions and include detailed narratives regarding the defendant's social history, current circumstance and criminal involvement.

Treatment Alternatives for Safer Communities (TASC) is a proven program model and methodology designed to engage persons referred by the justice system to substance abuse treatment and other services, and to collaborate with both justice and treatment to ensure that appropriate and adequate services are available for justice clients with the goal of reducing recidivism.
