Also, a 1997 amendment to the New York State Tax Law allows individuals to donate directly to the Missing and Exploited Children Clearinghouse fund when filing state income tax returns. Similar to the tax "checkoff" programs that have been utilized to generate funding in support of wildlife and breast cancer research, this initiative has dramatically increased services available from MECC. Enhancing outreach capabilities to increase missing child/child safety information available to children, parents, teachers, law enforcement and others in one of the most important efforts undertaken through this initiative.
Look for the "Missing and Exploited Children Clearinghouse Fund" contribution line on your New York State Income Tax Return form. You may donate any dollar amount. More information is available on the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance web site.
